Pokemon Champions Mega Evolutions Guide (2026): All Megas Listed, Ranked & Explained
Pokemon Champions features 55 Mega Evolutions — more than any mainline Pokemon game — including dozens of exclusive Mega forms that exist nowhere else. This guide covers how Mega Evolution works in Champions, every Mega Evolution available, the best competitive picks for Regulation M-A, and how to get Mega Stones efficiently.
1. How Mega Evolution Works in Pokemon Champions
Mega Evolution in Pokemon Champions follows the same core rules as the mainline games, with a few Champions-specific adjustments:
- Omni Ring required: You need an Omni Ring (the Champions equivalent of a Key Stone / Mega Bracelet) to activate Mega Evolution.
- Mega Stone on the Pokemon: The Pokemon you want to Mega Evolve must be holding the correct Mega Stone for its species (e.g. Blastoisinite for Blastoise).
- Activate with R during battle: Press R at the start of your turn to select Mega Evolution alongside your move choice.
- One Mega per match: You can only Mega Evolve one Pokemon per battle. If your Mega-evolved Pokemon faints, you cannot Mega Evolve another — even if others hold Mega Stones.
- Permanent for the battle: Once Mega Evolved, the transformation persists for the rest of the match. Types, stats, and abilities all change permanently to the Mega form.
Unlike the mainline games, Mega Stones in Champions are items you equip to your Pokemon in the team builder. Equipping a Mega Stone removes the ability to hold other items (like Leftovers or Life Orb), so your Mega Pokemon has a significant opportunity cost to consider.
2. Champions-Exclusive Mega Evolutions
The most exciting feature of Pokemon Champions is the roster of Mega Evolutions that do not exist in any mainline game. These exclusive Megas were designed specifically for the Champions competitive format and feature unique type changes, abilities, and stat distributions.
| Pokemon | Mega Type | Mega Ability | Key Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Meganium EXCLUSIVE | Grass / Fairy | Flower Veil | Gains Fairy typing and Flower Veil, shielding Grass-type allies from status and stat drops. |
| Mega Feraligatr EXCLUSIVE | Water / Dragon | Tough Claws | Dragon typing + Tough Claws powers up contact moves massively. Physical Water/Dragon coverage is formidable. |
| Mega Greninja EXCLUSIVE | Water / Dark | Protean | Protean changes Greninja's type to match any move it uses, granting STAB on every attack. Exceptional offensive versatility. |
| Mega Starmie EXCLUSIVE | Water / Psychic | Huge Power | Doubles the Attack stat. Unusual for a Starmie, but Huge Power turns it into an unexpected physical powerhouse alongside its Special bulk. |
| Mega Clefable EXCLUSIVE | Normal / Fairy | Magic Bounce | Magic Bounce reflects status moves and entry hazards back at the opponent. Exceptional defensive presence and hazard control. |
| Mega Floette EXCLUSIVE | Fairy | Fairy Aura | Fairy Aura boosts Fairy-type moves by 33% for both sides. Pairs with other Fairy-type attackers to create a Fairy-boosted offense team. |

| Mega Glimmora EXCLUSIVE | Rock / Poison | Toxic Debris | Scatters Toxic Spikes when hit by physical moves. Hazard stacking pressure and solid offensive stats. |

5. How to Get Mega Stones in Pokemon Champions
Mega Stones are the key items that enable Mega Evolution. Here are all the ways to obtain them:
- Mega Evolution Tutorial: Complete the tutorial immediately after unlocking Mega Evolution. It rewards 8 free Mega Stones — your best early source.
- Frontier Shop: Purchase Mega Stones with VP (Victory Points). Each stone costs approximately 2,000 VP. At around 325 VP per ranked win, you need roughly 6–7 wins per stone.
- Battle Pass: The seasonal Battle Pass includes several Mega Stones at various milestone tiers. Focus on leveling the pass quickly if you want to unlock multiple Mega forms early.
- Events and Missions: Limited-time events occasionally reward specific Mega Stones. Check in-game news and mission boards regularly.
If you are looking to use Champions-exclusive Megas early, note that they use the same Frontier Shop system. Stones like Frosnowite (Mega Froslass) and Greninjite (Mega Greninja) are available from launch but compete with your VP budget for other stones.
6. Mega Evolution Strategy in VGC Doubles
Mega Evolution in VGC doubles is fundamentally different from single-player use. These principles will help you get the most from your Mega slot:
When to Mega Evolve
The general rule: Mega Evolve as early as turn 1 if the ability matters (Intimidate → Mega no longer needed, Drought for immediate sun, Cursed Body for TR). Delay Mega Evolution if the base form's ability is valuable for the first turn (e.g. Charizard's Blaze) or if you want to keep the opponent guessing which Mega Stone your Pokemon holds.
Mega Slot Positioning
In your 6-Pokemon roster, usually only one slot is the intended Mega Evolve candidate. But in 6-pick-4, you may sometimes include two Mega Stone holders as a flex option. This forces your opponent to guess which you'll Mega Evolve, adding a mind-game layer to team preview.
Ability Transitions
Many Pokemon have different abilities in their Mega form vs their base form. Mega Garchomp loses Rough Skin (punishes contact) and gains Sand Force (boosts attacks in sand) — this is a significant strategic shift. Always check what ability your Pokemon loses when Mega Evolving, as some base abilities (like Intimidate on Mega Gyarados) are irreplaceable.
Mega Evolution and Team Codes
When sharing or importing Replica Team Codes in Pokemon Champions, Mega Stone selections are included in the build. In the PikaChampions team builder, toggling your Pokemon's Mega form checkbox (or selecting the Mega Stone item from the item picker) automatically reflects the Mega form's type and ability in the Analysis tab — so you can verify type coverage with and without the Mega active.
Plan Your Mega Evolution Team

The PikaChampions team builder supports all 55 Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Champions, including every Champions-exclusive form. Features relevant to Mega planning:
- Mega toggle per slot: Check the Mega box on any compatible slot to switch to the Mega form's type, ability, and stats
- Dual-Mega selector: Charizard's slot shows a dropdown to pick between Charizardite X and Charizardite Y
- Live type coverage update: The Analysis tab recalculates your defensive weaknesses and offensive coverage when you toggle Mega forms
- Item picker with Mega Stones: Assign the Mega Stone as the held item in the slot detail panel — the tool detects it and offers the Mega toggle automatically
