Araquanid in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get

Araquanid is a deceptively dangerous Water/Bug-type in Pokemon Champions thanks to its signature Water Bubble ability, which doubles the power of its Water-type moves. A merely average attacking stat becomes terrifying once doubled, all while a fat 132 Special Defense lets it tank special hits comfortably. This guide covers Araquanid's stats, type matchups, abilities, best moveset, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.

Base Stats

On paper Araquanid's 70 Attack and 50 Special Attack look weak, but Water Bubble effectively doubles its Water output, so Liquidation hits like a 140-power move. Defensively it is lopsided: a huge 132 Special Defense and serviceable 92 Defense over a modest 68 HP. The 42 Speed is slow, making Araquanid a comfortable fit under Trick Room or with Tailwind support.

Abilities

  • Water Bubble — doubles the power of Araquanid's Water-type moves, halves Fire damage taken, and grants immunity to burn. This is the entire reason to run Araquanid: it turns a mediocre attacker into one of the hardest-hitting Water-types in the format and erases its Fire weakness.
  • Water Absorb — heals from Water moves instead of taking damage. Niche; it removes the burn immunity and the offensive boost, so it is rarely chosen.

Best Moveset

Araquanid's whole game plan is to click a Water move boosted by Water Bubble. Everything else is coverage and support.

Water Bubble bulky attacker

  • Liquidation — the premier Water STAB; doubled by Water Bubble and able to drop the target's Defense.
  • Leech Life — Bug STAB that also heals, giving Araquanid longevity.
  • Wide Guard — blocks spread moves like Earthquake and Heat Wave to shield a partner in doubles.
  • Protect — doubles staple for scouting and stalling.

Coverage / utility

  • Ice Beam or Blizzard — hits Grass- and Dragon-types that wall the Water STAB.
  • Icy Wind — spread Ice damage plus speed control for a slow team.
  • Reflect — screen support leaning on its bulk.

Other options include Hydro Pump, Surf (spread Water), Scald, Bug Buzz, Crunch, Giga Drain and Iron Defense.

Suggested SP Spread

With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Araquanid can lean offensive or bulky. Because Water Bubble already supplies the damage multiplier, a balanced spread of HP and Attack works well, leaning on its natural 132 Special Defense; add Speed only if you are not running Trick Room. A bulk- or Attack-boosting Stat Alignment finishes it off — model the exact Level 50 numbers in the team builder.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A

Araquanid is a Trick Room and Tailwind beneficiary that punches well above its base stats. Water Bubble means its Liquidation threatens to two-shot most of the field, while halved Fire damage and burn immunity let it switch into Fire attackers safely and force them out. Its enormous special bulk means special attackers struggle to revenge it, and Wide Guard gives the team a tool against spread offence. The catches are real, though: a low Speed that forces speed-control support, and a Bug typing that leaves it weak to Flying, Electric and Rock. It rewards teams that supply Trick Room and want a Water-type that does not fold to opposing Fire moves.

Evolution Line

Dewpider → Araquanid (Level 22). Araquanid does not Mega Evolve.
