Chesnaught in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset, Mega & How to Get

Chesnaught is a defensive Grass/Fighting bruiser in Pokemon Champions with a fortress-like 122 Defense and the matchup-warping Bulletproof ability. Its Mega Evolution leans even harder into walling, climbing to 172 Defense and 115 Special Defense while keeping a respectable Attack. This guide covers Chesnaught's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.

Base Stats

Chesnaught is built around 88/122/75 bulk and a solid 107 Attack, let down only by a slow 64 Speed. Mega Chesnaught becomes an absolute physical wall at 88/172/115 — but its Speed drops to 44, so it almost wants Trick Room to attack first. The trade is clear: the Mega is far tankier and a better Trick Room body, while the base form is faster and keeps Bulletproof alongside Overgrow.

Abilities

  • Bulletproof (Chesnaught & Mega) — blocks all ball and bomb moves outright: Sludge Bomb, Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Energy Ball, Aura Sphere, Gyro Ball and more. This neutralises common coverage and turns several would-be answers into dead clicks.
  • Overgrow (Chesnaught) — powers up Grass moves by 50% below one-third HP; a passive pinch bonus.

Best Moveset

Chesnaught plays as a bulky support body more than a sweeper. Its best doubles tools:

Bulky wall / support

  • Body Press or Drain Punch — Fighting STAB; Drain Punch heals, and on the Mega its enormous Defense makes Body Press hit shockingly hard.
  • Spikes — entry-hazard pressure to chip switch-ins across a game.
  • Leech Seed — passive recovery and chip that wears down bulky cores.
  • Protect — doubles staple, and especially useful for a slow Mega.

Offensive Iron Defense / Body Press

  • Iron Defense — stacks Defense, which Body Press then converts into damage.
  • Body Press — scales with the boosted Defense for a surprising win condition.
  • Synthesis — recovery to outlast walls.

Other tools include Grassy Glide (priority under Grassy Terrain), Close Combat, Wood Hammer via Energy Ball/Leaf Storm coverage, Knock Off, Swords Dance, Bulk Up and Tera Blast.

Suggested SP Spread

With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Mega Chesnaught wants HP and Defense to maximise both its bulk and a Body Press build, with a defensive Stat Alignment that lowers Speed (good under Trick Room). The base form can split toward Attack for a Swords Dance set. Tune the exact numbers in the PikaChampions team builder.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A

Chesnaught is a defensive anchor that punishes special coverage. Bulletproof shuts off a whole class of moves — Sludge Bomb, Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Aura Sphere — which means Pokemon that would normally check a Grass/Fighting type simply cannot. Mega Chesnaught's 172 Defense makes it one of the hardest physical walls in the format, and Body Press converts that wall into a threat. Its low Speed is the main cost, so it shines on Trick Room or bulky balance teams where attacking last is fine. Spikes and Leech Seed give it proactive value while it sits in front, soaking hits and supporting partners.

Evolution Line

Chespin → Quilladin (Level 16) → Chesnaught (Level 36). Chesnaught Mega Evolves by holding Chesnaughtite.
