Gengar in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Mega, Moveset & How to Get
Gengar is a fast, hard-hitting Ghost/Poison special attacker in Pokemon Champions with a deep disruption toolkit. Mega Gengar gains the format-warping Shadow Tag ability, which traps an opponent in place — enabling Perish Song "trap" strategies on top of a 170 Special Attack and 130 Speed. This guide covers its stats, matchups, best moveset, an SP spread and how to get it.
Base Stats
Base Gengar already has 130 Special Attack and 110 Speed; Mega Gengar climbs to 170 and 130. Its 60/80/95 bulk is thin, so like most fast Ghosts it wants to threaten and disrupt rather than trade hits.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gengar | 60 | 65 | 60 | 130 | 75 | 110 | 500 |
| Mega Gengar | 60 | 65 | 80 | 170 | 95 | 130 | 600 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Cursed Body (Gengar) — may disable a move that hits it.
- Shadow Tag (Mega Gengar) — the trapped opponent cannot switch out, letting Gengar set up Perish Song traps, click Hypnosis, or simply remove a problem Pokemon.
Best Moveset
Fast special attacker / trapper
- Shadow Ball — Ghost STAB.
- Sludge Bomb — Poison STAB with a poison chance.
- Focus Blast or Icy Wind — coverage or speed control.
- Protect, Hypnosis or Perish Song — safety, disruption, or a Shadow Tag trap.
It also has Nasty Plot, Will-O-Wisp, Encore, Disable, Taunt and Trick Room.
Suggested SP Spread
With the SP system, Gengar maximises Special Attack and Speed with an offensive Stat Alignment. A little bulk helps it survive priority long enough to disrupt. Tune it in the team builder.
Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Gengar is a fast special attacker and disruptor. The base form spams Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb while threatening Hypnosis and Will-O-Wisp; Mega Gengar's Shadow Tag turns it into a trapper that can isolate and remove a key opponent, or set up a Perish Song win condition with a partner. It is frail, so it relies on speed and support to fire off its disruption before taking damage.
Evolution Line
Gastly → Haunter → Gengar (via trade). Gengar Mega Evolves by holding Gengarite.
