Greninja in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset, Mega & How to Get

Greninja is a lightning-fast Water/Dark attacker in Pokemon Champions defined by its Protean ability, which gives every move it clicks same-type STAB. Its Mega Evolution keeps Protean and pushes its Speed and offenses to elite levels, turning an already-versatile attacker into a 142-Speed coverage machine. This guide covers Greninja's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.

Base Stats

Base Greninja is fast (122 Speed) and mixed (95 Attack / 103 Special Attack) on a fragile 72/67/71 body. Mega Greninja jumps to 125 Attack, 133 Special Attack and a ferocious 142 Speed — among the fastest in the format — while bulk stays thin. The whole package is built on speed and Protean flexibility, not survivability.

Abilities

  • Protean (Greninja & Mega) — changes Greninja's type to match the move it uses, so every attack gets the 1.5x STAB bonus. This lets a single Greninja threaten with Water, Dark, Ice, Poison, Rock and Fighting coverage all at full power, making its moves hard to predict and hard to switch into.
  • Torrent (Greninja) — boosts Water moves below one-third HP; almost never run over Protean.

Best Moveset

With Protean every move is boosted, so Greninja is really a coverage-pick problem for the opponent. Its best doubles tools:

Fast mixed attacker (Mega Greninja)

  • Water Shuriken — multi-hit priority that gets Protean STAB; excellent for picking off weakened, faster threats and breaking Focus Sash / Substitute.
  • Dark Pulse — Dark STAB with flinch chance; Greninja becomes Dark-type as it fires.
  • Ice Beam or Blizzard — coverage for Dragon, Flying and Grass; Blizzard is the spread option.
  • Protect — essential safety on such a frail attacker.

Coverage / utility options

  • Hydro Pump / Surf — hard-hitting single-target or spread Water STAB.
  • Gunk Shot — Poison coverage that smashes Fairy types.
  • Icy Wind — spread Speed control while still doing damage.
  • Spikes / Toxic Spikes / Taunt — fast utility if you want disruption over a fourth attack.

Other tools include Liquidation, Rock Slide, U-turn, Shadow Sneak, Swords Dance and Tera Blast.

Suggested SP Spread

With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Mega Greninja maxes Speed and its primary attacking stat — Special Attack for a special set, Attack for a Water Shuriken / Gunk Shot physical set — with an offensive Stat Alignment. With 142 base Speed it rarely needs more bulk; keep the points on offense. Tune the numbers in the PikaChampions team builder.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A

Greninja is a hyper-offense scalpel. Protean means it can pick the perfect type every turn, so it pressures the entire field and is genuinely hard to wall — there is no single switch-in that resists all of Water, Dark, Ice and Poison. Mega Greninja's 142 Speed lets it outrun nearly everything unboosted, and Water Shuriken gives it Protean-boosted priority to finish off faster threats or snipe through Sash. The catch is its paper-thin bulk: it dies to most super-effective hits and even strong neutral ones, so it leans on Tailwind, redirection and pivoting to fire and flee. As a fast, unpredictable mixed attacker for offensive teams in Regulation M-A, it has few equals.

Evolution Line

Froakie → Frogadier (Level 16) → Greninja (Level 36). Greninja Mega Evolves by holding Greninjite.
