Ninetales in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Alolan Form, Moveset & How to Get

Ninetales is a fast weather setter in Pokemon Champions, and which weather depends on the form. Kanto Ninetales is a Fire-type that sets sun with Drought, while Alolan Ninetales is Ice/Fairy with Snow Warning — the premier Aurora Veil lead. Both share a quick 109 Speed. This guide covers both forms, plus stats, matchups, best moveset, an SP spread and how to get it.

Base Stats

Both forms share a 505 BST and a sturdy 100 Special Defense, but only middling offense — see the table above for the per-form split. Alolan Ninetales is the faster of the two at 109 Speed, which helps it get Aurora Veil up before the opponent moves. Ninetales is built to set weather first and support, not to out-damage the field.

Type Matchups

Weak to: Water Ground Rock
Resists: Fire Grass Ice Bug Steel Fairy
The matchups below are for Kanto Ninetales (pure Fire — weak to Water, Ground and Rock). Alolan Ninetales is Ice/Fairy instead: it resists Dragon and is immune to Dragon-type damage from its Fairy half, but is weak to Fire, Poison, Steel and Rock.

Abilities

  • Drought (Kanto Ninetales) — sets harsh sun on entry, powering Fire moves and enabling Chlorophyll partners.
  • Flash Fire (Kanto Ninetales) — absorbs Fire moves for a boost.
  • Snow Warning (Alolan Ninetales) — sets snow on entry, which enables Aurora Veil and boosts Ice-type bulk.
  • Snow Cloak (Alolan Ninetales) — raises evasion in snow.

Best Moveset

Kanto — sun setter

  • Heat Wave — spread Fire STAB, boosted by its own sun.
  • Solar Beam — instant under sun.
  • Will-O-Wisp / Encore — disruption.
  • Protect — staple.

Alolan — Aurora Veil lead

  • Aurora Veil — halves physical and special damage for the team while snow is up; the reason to run this form.
  • Moonblast + Blizzard — 100%-accurate STAB under snow.
  • Encore / Disable — disruption.

Suggested SP Spread

With the SP system, Ninetales usually wants Speed (to set weather and Aurora Veil first) plus bulk, with a Speed-leaning Stat Alignment. A Focus Sash is common so it reliably gets the veil or weather up. Tune it in the team builder.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A

Kanto Ninetales is a sun lead: instant Drought enables Fire- and Chlorophyll-based partners while Heat Wave pressures both opponents. Alolan Ninetales is one of the format's best dedicated screens leads — Snow Warning plus Aurora Veil halves all incoming damage for several turns, setting up a fast or fragile partner to sweep. Both rely on getting their weather up turn one, so they appreciate Focus Sash and fast support.

Evolution Line

Vulpix → Ninetales — use a Fire Stone for Kanto Ninetales, or an Ice Stone on Alolan Vulpix for Alolan Ninetales. Ninetales does not Mega Evolve.

How to Get Ninetales in Pokemon Champions

  • Evolve Vulpix — use a Fire Stone (Kanto) or Ice Stone (Alolan) on the matching Vulpix.
  • Roster Ranch recruitment — available during the Regulation M-A season (around April–June 2026); permanently recruitable with Teammate Tickets.
  • Transfer via Pokemon HOME — move a Ninetales from another title into Pokemon Champions.
