Polteageist in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get
Polteageist is a glass-cannon Ghost-type in Pokemon Champions with an enormous 134 Special Attack and one of the format's scariest setup tools in Shell Smash. Frail but explosive, it converts a single free turn into a sweep. Its abilities — Weak Armor and Cursed Body — both reward it for taking a hit. This guide covers Polteageist's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.
Base Stats
Polteageist is built around 134 Special Attack and a surprisingly stout 114 Special Defense, so it is far less flimsy against special attacks than its looks suggest. Physical bulk (60/65) is the problem — physical attackers and priority blow it open. The 70 base Speed is the catch: Polteageist is too slow to sweep unboosted, which is exactly why Shell Smash defines its build.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polteageist | 60 | 65 | 65 | 134 | 114 | 70 | 508 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Weak Armor — when hit by a physical move, Defense drops one stage but Speed rises two. On a Shell Smash sweeper that extra Speed is a real bonus if Polteageist survives the hit, helping it outrun the field.
- Cursed Body — a 30% chance to disable the move that struck Polteageist. A defensive coin-flip that can lock down an opposing attacker's key move at the right moment.
Best Moveset
Polteageist has one game-defining set, plus a more disruptive Trick Room variant for slow teams.
Shell Smash sweeper
- Shell Smash — the core: +2 Attack, Special Attack and Speed in a single turn (at the cost of both defenses), instantly turning Polteageist into a +2 special sweeper.
- Shadow Ball — primary Ghost STAB with a Special Defense drop chance.
- Stored Power — scales to enormous power off the Shell Smash boosts, ideal as a snowballing finisher.
- Protect — lets it Shell Smash on a turn it is shielded by redirection, then clean up.
Trick Room / disruption
- Trick Room — Polteageist can set the room itself for slower teammates.
- Nasty Plot + Psychic / Psyshock — a non-Smash boosting line with coverage.
- Will-O-Wisp — cripples physical attackers that threaten its weak Defense.
- Sucker Punch — priority to pick off faster, weakened threats.
It also has access to Calm Mind, Giga Drain, Dark Pulse, Foul Play, Poltergeist, Light Screen, Reflect, Substitute, and Tera Blast.
Suggested SP Spread
With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), a Shell Smash Polteageist maximises Special Attack and Speed so it sweeps the moment it boosts, with a Speed- or SpA-boosting Stat Alignment. A Trick Room set instead dumps everything into Special Attack and bulk and ignores Speed. Tune the spread in the team builder.
Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Polteageist is a dedicated win condition. It does almost nothing useful unboosted, but one safe Shell Smash turn — bought by redirection, a Fake Out lead, or a Protect behind a screen — turns it into a +2 special sweeper that few teams can switch into. Stored Power scaling means the longer it lives after a boost, the more lethal it becomes. The flip side is total reliance on setup and a crippling weakness to priority and physical attackers, who exploit its 60/65 physical bulk before it gets going. Build it as the payoff to a support shell: bring screens, redirection, and Fake Out so Polteageist gets its one turn, then close the game.
