Talonflame in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get

Talonflame is one of the fastest support pieces in Pokemon Champions, a Fire/Flying speedster built around blistering 126 Speed and the Gale Wings ability. It sets Tailwind on turn one, fires priority Brave Bird at full HP, and pivots out with U-turn. This guide covers Talonflame's stats, type matchups, best moveset, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.

Base Stats

Talonflame's standout stat is its 126 Speed, which makes it one of the fastest naturally non-boosted Pokemon in the format. Its offenses are modest (81 Attack, 74 Special Attack) and its bulk is thin at 78/71/69, so it lives and dies by speed and priority rather than trading hits. The Speed is what guarantees turn-one Tailwind before most opponents can move.

Abilities

  • Flame Body — 30% chance to burn a contact attacker; a passive deterrent against physical threats.
  • Gale Wings — gives Flying-type moves +1 priority while Talonflame is at full HP. This is the signature ability: a priority Brave Bird or instant Tailwind before the opponent can act is what defines Talonflame.

Best Moveset

Talonflame is almost always a fast support pivot rather than a sweeper:

Tailwind support / priority pivot

  • Tailwind — its core job; doubling the team's Speed on turn one swings whole games.
  • Brave Bird — Flying STAB that gets +1 priority from Gale Wings at full HP, letting it snipe weakened threats or revenge-kill.
  • U-turn — pivot out after setting Tailwind to bring in a sweeper safely.
  • Will-O-Wisp or Protect — burn a physical attacker, or scout and stay safe.

Offensive variant

  • Flare Blitz — powerful Fire STAB for the second slot of dual STAB.
  • Swords Dance + Brave Bird — a priority sweep attempt while still at full HP.

Other tools include Roost, Defog, Taunt, Quick Guard, Heat Wave (spread Fire), Hurricane and Tera Blast.

Suggested SP Spread

With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), a support Talonflame can run a little HP for survivability and lean on its already-elite Speed; an offensive build maxes Attack and adds Speed with an Attack- or Speed-boosting Stat Alignment. Because Gale Wings only works at full HP, some bulk investment keeps that priority online longer. Dial in the numbers in the PikaChampions team builder.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A

Talonflame is a premier Tailwind setter and priority pivot in Regulation M-A doubles. Its 126 Speed means it almost always wins the race to set Tailwind, instantly flipping the speed math for a slower hyper-offense core. Gale Wings priority Brave Bird lets it pick off Tailwind setters, weather inducers and weakened sweepers before they move, while U-turn keeps momentum flowing. It is fragile and weak to Stealth-Rock-style chip and Electric/Rock coverage, so it wants to do its job and get out — a hit-and-run enabler rather than a frontline tank.

Evolution Line

Fletchling → Fletchinder (Level 17) → Talonflame (Level 35). Talonflame does not Mega Evolve.
