Torterra in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get
Torterra is a slow, bulky Grass/Ground attacker in Pokemon Champions that pairs a strong 109 Attack with sturdy 95/105 physical bulk and a low Speed that makes it a natural Trick Room weapon. This guide covers Torterra's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.
Base Stats
Torterra is built like a tank with teeth: 95 HP and 105 Defense back up a 109 Attack, while the 56 Speed is low enough to thrive under Trick Room. Special bulk (85) and Special Attack (75) are the weaker stats, so it is firmly a physical attacker that prefers to set up the room and hit first by going last.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Torterra | 95 | 109 | 105 | 75 | 85 | 56 | 525 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Overgrow — boosts Grass moves by 50% once HP drops below a third; a passive late-game bonus rather than a plan.
- Shell Armor — blocks critical hits entirely, giving Torterra slightly more reliable bulk against high-crit attackers.
Best Moveset
Torterra's strong, redundant STAB combination and access to hazards make it both an attacker and a support piece.
Bulky Trick Room attacker
- Earthquake — spread Ground STAB hitting both opponents; the centerpiece move in doubles.
- Wood Hammer or Seed Bomb — hard-hitting Grass STAB; pair with Grassy Glide for priority under terrain.
- Rock Slide — spread coverage for the Flying-types that resist both of its STABs.
- Protect — doubles staple, important when running spread Earthquake next to a grounded ally.
Support / setup
- Stealth Rock — chip support if your team wants entry hazards.
- Swords Dance — turns 109 Attack into a real sweeper under Trick Room.
- Grassy Glide — priority Grass STAB under Grassy Terrain, great when Trick Room is not up.
- Synthesis — recovery to keep the tank healthy.
Other notable tools include High Horsepower, Earth Power, Leaf Storm, Stone Edge, Iron Head, Leech Seed, Superpower and Reflect.
Suggested SP Spread
With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Torterra wants Attack plus HP and Defense to lean on its physical bulk, with a slow Stat Alignment for a Trick Room build (you actively want low Speed). A Swords Dance sweeper can push more into Attack. Plug the Level 50 numbers into the PikaChampions team builder.
Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Torterra is a Trick Room attacker and bulky pivot. Its 56 Speed is a liability in normal play but an asset under Trick Room, where it moves first and clicks spread Earthquake into the opposing pair while shrugging off physical hits with 95/105 bulk. Earthquake plus Rock Slide gives it strong spread coverage, and a single Swords Dance lets it tear through bulky cores. The double weakness to Ice (Grass/Ground takes 4× from Ice attacks) is its biggest liability, so it pairs best with teammates that pressure or remove opposing Ice-types. As a slow, durable damage dealer, it slots cleanly into Trick Room and Grassy Terrain cores.
Evolution Line
Turtwig → Grotle (Level 18) → Torterra (Level 32). Torterra does not Mega Evolve.
