Tyranitar in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset, Mega & How to Get

Tyranitar is a pseudo-legendary Rock/Dark powerhouse in Pokemon Champions that summons a permanent sandstorm with Sand Stream while hitting hard off 134 Attack and excellent all-round bulk. Mega Tyranitar keeps the weather and pushes its stats to monstrous levels, becoming one of the toughest physical threats in the format. This guide covers Tyranitar's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.

Base Stats

Tyranitar's 600 BST is spread across 100 HP, 134 Attack, 110 Defense and 100 Special Defense, with sand giving Rock-types a passive Special Defense boost on top. Its only real flaw is 61 Speed. Mega Tyranitar climbs to 700 BST — 164 Attack, 150 Defense and 120 Special Defense — but still only reaches 71 Speed, so it remains a slow, bulky bruiser rather than a fast sweeper.

Abilities

  • Sand Stream (Tyranitar & Mega Tyranitar) — summons a sandstorm on entry that chips non-Rock/Ground/Steel Pokemon each turn and raises the Special Defense of Rock-types (including Tyranitar itself). The defining ability and a whole team archetype.
  • Unnerve (Tyranitar) — prevents foes from eating Berries; minor utility when you don't want the weather.

Best Moveset

Tyranitar is flexible — a bulky attacker, a Dragon Dance sweeper, or a Trick Room hitter. For Regulation M-A doubles:

Bulky attacker

  • Rock Slide — spread Rock STAB that hits both foes with a flinch chance; a doubles staple.
  • Crunch or Knock Off — Dark STAB; Knock Off also strips items.
  • Protect — doubles safety and a turn to let sand chip.
  • Earthquake / High Horsepower — Ground coverage (High Horsepower spares the ally).

Dragon Dance sweeper

  • Dragon Dance — boosts Attack and Speed, fixing the Speed problem and turning it into a win condition.
  • Stone Edge — single-target Rock STAB for raw power after a boost.
  • Ice Punch / Fire Punch — coverage for Dragon-, Grass- and Steel-types.

Other tools include Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, Taunt, Snarl, Superpower, Iron Head, Helping Hand, and Tera Blast. It even has special options like Ice Beam and Flamethrower off its solid 95 Special Attack.

Suggested SP Spread

With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Tyranitar can build for power or bulk:

  • Bulky attacker / Trick Room: HP and Defense with an Attack-leaning Stat Alignment; the low Speed shines under Trick Room.
  • Dragon Dance sweeper: Attack plus enough Speed that a single boost outruns the field, with a Speed- or Attack-boosting Alignment.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A

Tyranitar is a weather-defining anchor. Sand Stream sets a permanent sandstorm that both supports sand-abusing partners (Sand Rush, Sand Force) and passively boosts Tyranitar's own Special Defense, letting it tank special hits it has no business surviving. Off 134 Attack with spread Rock Slide and Dark STAB, it pressures both opponents while its 100/110/100 bulk lets it stick around. In doubles it bends to two clear archetypes: a slow, immovable Trick Room hitter that abuses its 61 base Speed, or a Dragon Dance sweeper that boosts past the field and cleans late. Its Rock/Dark typing carries a heavy Fighting weakness and a stack of others (Ground, Grass, Water, Bug, Steel, Fairy), so it leans on its bulk, the sand chip, and partners to cover the Fighting-types that threaten it.

Evolution Line

Larvitar → Pupitar (Level 30) → Tyranitar (Level 55). Tyranitar Mega Evolves by holding Tyranitarite.
