Volcarona in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get

Volcarona is the premier Bug/Fire setup sweeper in Pokemon Champions, built entirely around Quiver Dance and a monstrous 135 Special Attack. One boost lifts its already-good Special Defense and Speed and turns it into a snowballing win condition. This guide covers Volcarona's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.

Base Stats

Volcarona has a huge 135 Special Attack, strong 105 Special Defense, and a fast 100 Speed on a 85 HP frame. Its 65 Defense is the soft spot, so it can crumple to physical priority and Rock coverage. Quiver Dance papers over the special side and the Speed, which is exactly why every set is built around it.

Abilities

  • Flame Body — a 30% chance to burn attackers that make contact, which can cripple physical threats trying to break Volcarona. The standard pick.
  • Swarm — boosts Bug moves when HP is low; situational and rarely worth giving up the burn chance from Flame Body.

Best Moveset

Volcarona's competitive identity is one move deep, but the support around it matters in doubles:

Quiver Dance sweeper

  • Quiver Dance — +1 Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed; the entire build-around.
  • Heat Wave — spread Fire STAB that hits both opponents, ideal in doubles; Flamethrower or Fire Blast for single-target power.
  • Bug Buzz — single-target Bug STAB for the Dark and Psychic types.
  • Protect — lets it set Quiver Dance safely behind a partner or stall a turn.

Support coverage options

  • Giga Drain — hits the Water and Rock types that wall Fire and recovers HP.
  • Rage Powder — redirect attacks to protect a fragile partner.
  • Tailwind — speed control if you want utility over a second attack.

Other tools include Hurricane, Air Slash, Psychic, Will-O-Wisp, Roost and Tera Blast.

Suggested SP Spread

With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Volcarona maxes Special Attack and Speed so its first Quiver Dance immediately outpaces the field, with an offensive Stat Alignment. Because Quiver Dance also raises Special Defense, you can lean fully into offense and let the boost cover the special side. Tune the final numbers in the PikaChampions team builder.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A

Volcarona is a snowball win condition. A single Quiver Dance behind a Protect or redirection turns it into a +1 attacker that outspeeds and overwhelms much of the format with spread Heat Wave, and each subsequent boost makes it harder to revenge. The catch is its 65 Defense and its quad Rock weakness: physical priority, Rock Slide and any super-effective hit through Stealth Rock chip can end the sweep before it starts. That makes its best partners redirectors like a Follow Me / Rage Powder user, Tailwind support to get the boost off safely, and teammates that pressure the Rock and Water types it dreads. Set it up cleanly and few sweepers in Regulation M-A are scarier.

Evolution Line

Larvesta → Volcarona (Level 59). Volcarona does not Mega Evolve.
