Watchog in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get

Watchog is a lightweight Normal-type in Pokemon Champions with a surprisingly wide movepool and the Analytic ability, which rewards it for moving last. It is no powerhouse, but a deep coverage pool, Hypnosis and Nasty Plot give it more tricks than its stats suggest. This guide covers Watchog's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.

Base Stats

Watchog's 420 BST is modest: 60 HP and 69/69 defenses make it frail, and an 85 Attack / 60 Special Attack split with 77 Speed means it never hits especially hard from either side. Its value comes from coverage and Analytic, not raw numbers — a middling speed tier that actually helps it trigger the move-last damage bonus.

Abilities

  • Illuminate — a minor ability with no real combat effect in this format.
  • Keen Eye — prevents accuracy from being lowered; situational.
  • Analytic — boosts Watchog's move power by ~30% when it moves after the target. This is the ability you want, and it pairs naturally with Watchog's average Speed and Trick Room.

Best Moveset

Analytic mixed attacker

  • Hypnosis — put a key threat to sleep; the single most disruptive thing Watchog does.
  • Knock Off — removes items while dealing Dark damage; great utility STAB-adjacent move.
  • Crunch or Gunk Shot — physical coverage off the 85 Attack.
  • Protect — doubles staple for scouting and safety.

Nasty Plot special set

  • Nasty Plot — doubles Special Attack to make the weak SpA relevant.
  • Thunderbolt + Flamethrower + Focus Blast — broad special coverage that Analytic amplifies.
  • Shadow Ball — coverage for the Ghost- and Psychic-types Normal can't touch.

Other tools include the elemental punches (Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch), Swords Dance, Power-Up Punch, Thunder Wave, Helping Hand and Light Screen.

Suggested SP Spread

With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Watchog can't afford to spread thin — pick one attacking stat (Attack for the Knock Off/Gunk Shot set, Special Attack for Nasty Plot) and add a little HP for survivability. A slow Stat Alignment leans into Analytic and Trick Room. Tune it in the team builder.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A

Watchog is a budget utility attacker that lives off Hypnosis and a deep coverage pool rather than power. Hypnosis lets it remove a problem Pokemon outright, Knock Off strips items from the whole field, and the elemental punches plus Thunderbolt/Flamethrower/Focus Blast give it an answer to almost anything for at least neutral damage. Analytic turns its unremarkable Speed into an asset — moving last under Trick Room or after a faster partner adds a real damage bump. It is frail and outclassed as a pure attacker, so its place in the meta is as a cheap, flexible disruptor on a team that wants sleep and item removal without spending a premium slot.

Evolution Line

Patrat → Watchog (Level 20). Watchog does not Mega Evolve.
